Two words....Miracle Whip. Unfortunately, every item we ordered here was slathered or swimming in overly sweet mayo. The noodle salad with squid everyone raves about...swimming in sweet mayonnaise. We ordered 3 very different sushi rolls and ALL of them were coated in sweet, Miracle Whip style mayonnaise. C'mon people...it's sushi. Rice, seafood, and maybe a tad of creativity and you have yourself a great roll....but not here. Disappointing, because the interior is cute and the service was good. It's the kind of sushi your grandma would make, if you're into that kind of thing.

Terrible place. Service was slow. I ordered the Hana special dinner, essentially an entire sampler and it was all awful. The "steak" was chewy and I'm convinced it was a sliced hamburger meat. The sushi roll was also basic and unimpressive. Worst meal I've had in two years in NOLA. Will not be going back and j do not recommend it!!

Awesome sushi. Being from New York, I was really blown away. Great quality, unique dishes. The grilled shumai.... Everywhere should grill their shumai if that's how good it can taste. The noodle salad is spot on. Not going to lie, we placed a take out order the next day just for the noodle salad. Also, the iced green tea. DAMN! The special rolls are really big and everything was delicious.

Came back again a few days later because my girlfriend is quite persuasive. After last visit's debacle with the service, we agreed to order for pick-up. We waited the time they suggested then showed up and had to wait an additional fifteen minutes. Pretty frustrating and indicative of their service. Again, the food this trip was fine, sushi was above average. The cucumber salad was cloyingly sweet, avoid this item like the plague. No matter what my girlfriend says we will not be returning to Hana.

I've eaten at Hana many times since moving to Nola, mostly because of the convenience (I can walk there), but it has always been hit-or-miss. Once, my friend's Rainbow roll was really, really warm. Wtf. Couldn't eat it. The last time I went, the Baked Salmon was all grey and shiny-looking. Trying to use old salmon in the cooked dishes? I'm on to you, Hana!!! The service here is weird. Just weird, I can't really describe it. I know people who hate this place and think it's disgusting and others who have never had a bad experience. I guess it's worth a try if you're brave enough. Oh and just ignore the Riverbend bums who hang out in front.

Hana is a great sushi restaurant. In the mood for sushi, a friend recommended Hana. While it isn't in the area of town I would normally go for lunch, I had business close by, and I am glad I did. We started with salmon sashimi, edamame and a complimentary noodle salad. The sashimi was excellent. The pieces were thin, very fresh and the perfect size to eat in one bite. While I have only had this type of sashimi once before, this was the best I have had. The edamame was good, but it seems hard to mess up soybeans. The noodle salad was very good. It was also the best I have ever had. For entrees we split a philly roll and a margarita roll. Both were well made, with very fresh ingredients. While the philly was good, the margarita roll was among the top three rolls I have ever had. Service was excellent. Our drinks were never left empty and the server was very attentive. I really liked Hana and hope to visit again soon.

Run of the mill sushi joint. Many better options in the area. Service was poor as well. . Took forever in a restaurant that wasn't crowded. I ordered salmon sashimi but got tuna. When I pointed it out to the server, she looked at me and said "can you eat tuna today?" I thought it was a joke at first.. I was wrong. The shumai was bland, the edemame frozen, and the sushi was very average. I'd only return as a last resort.

Just wanted to update this to say that I have been LOVING their rainbow roll as of late! You can get a half order, so you don't have to worry about having to eat 8 really big roll pieces. Also, I have taken to getting their iced green tea with my meals, which is fabulous and refreshing, especially on hot summer days. I really wish I could bottle the stuff, because it has more flavor than the iced green tea I've had at other places. Just a note: others have complained about the service, but I've never had any issue and I've been here A LOT for both lunch and dinner.

Hana is one of those secret places that local go to for great sushi... I always sit at the back sushi bar, there are two or three sushi chefs on duty and all make great sushi and can sometimes surprise you with a newly created roll or salad! The bests they have are the WhoDat and Lobster Roll rolls.. I suggest going with a friend and ordering both of these and sharing!

This is our go-to sushi place because we know we are going to get a solid meal and we know we will get a good deal (best sushi for the money) In general, I have not been absolutely blown away by anything, but I we have ordered a lot of items over the years and I would say that we have never really been disappointed by anything.

Hana is one of my favorite Sushi joints in New Orleans. The restaurant is clean and the service is quick. The sushi has never knocked my socks off, but I have also never had a bad meal there. The Hana Special and Oyster Roll are very good!

My roommate and I used to eat here weekly until we had an off visit followed by a horrible one. Both times the sushi rice was overcooked and the fish not that fresh. On our last visit there we took a friend visiting from Tennessee. The service was horrible we only had our water glasses refilled once. And the next day when I check my bank account they had over charged my credit card $10 and when I went to speak to someone about it they told me they didn't have a copy of my signed receipt so they couldn't do anything about it. Needless to say we won't be returning, and if you are planning on going there pay in cash!

OOHH MYY GOODNESS! This is my favorite sushi restaurant in all of New Orleans. Everyone always says Ninja is their favorite, and my husband and I are dumbfounded. How can you say that?! Hana is so fresh, fast, and yummy. I love the noodle salad.. which Mikimoto on Carrollton also has.. but is such a rare treat. We get the Hana Special roll nearly every time. What a crowd pleaser! It's the biggest roll I've ever seen.. and the flavors always hit the spot. I do wish they had a heart attack roll, or some of these other desinger type rolls I've had at sushi restaurants in California.. but they'll make anything.. and with the noodle salad.. I swear it might be my favorite sushi place ever! Service is good.

I love Hana! They have my favorite roll in the whole wide world, and while their noodle salad is nothing to write home about, it's a refreshing little start to your meal. Try the Tiger Eye roll! Everything always tastes fresh here, and it's my favorite sushi place.

Slow service, once my salmon was brown, another time, one of my rolls had more avocado than fish. I didn't order an avocado roll, sorry. We brought my friend's parents here once, and they left half their plates, because they said the fish wasn't fresh. I used to come here a lot in college, but then discovered many other better sushi restaurants in New Orleans. Haven't been here in a while, nor do I ever care to again.

I am not the biggest fan of sushi, but I decided to try this place out. So after driving around Uptown what seemed like forever to try and find this place (my date did her best to guide me there), get there and see a quite little place that is a great place for a little meal. I ordered a Cajun roll and a spicy tuna roll. I have no idea what my date ordered since she ordered before I got there! Horrible right!? Actually it didn't bother me since they were closing at 9 and we sort of had to hurry. The sushi was great. The atmosphere was right up my alley. The service was spot on. I would give it 5 stars if I were comfortable rating sushi places. Since I'm so ignorant on the subject, I can't give the place 5 confidently.

I have always wanted to like Hana. I've wanted to like it so much that I've given it at least 5+ chances to redeem itself. If you are in a rush, I would not choose to dine in. After the waitress brings the food, you don't ever see her again. It always takes me 30 minutes to get my check after flagging down another waitress to get it for you. Food is okay. I've had way better sushi at Mikimoto and Origami though. Such a shame, because the location is great.

Probably my favorite sushi in uptown. I've eaten at 95% of the places in the area and this is where I always prefer to go. (Sushi Brothers and Kyoto are alios pretty good but for different reasons each). Hana is always fresh and consistently delicious. I adore their mango salmon and no-name rolls. If you like crabstick, the Hana special roll is a killer. I especially like places that start you off with the noodle salad and the actually MAKE their miso soup instead of using instant. The service is always prompt, water glasses always full, excellent to-go packaging. I'm a fan!

This place overuses crab salad to the extreme, so don't order anything with crab. Everything is pretty much average. I think the gooey noodles are disguisting, but others seem to think they're great. Oh yea, and unlike many other sushi restaurants in the area they card pretty hard.

Normally, I love Hana. I hadn't been there in a few months, so my boyfriend and I decided it was time to go again. Unfortunately, they were off their game. When we sat down, there were noodles all over my side of the table, stuck to the table cloth (as if it was hardly cleaned). Also, the service was painfully slow, but I was willing to deal with it for the sake of tasty sushi. Alas, even their rolls were slacking. Snow crab filled everything past its brim. The crunchy roll had more snow crab than crunchy which, sadly, rendered it mostly tasteless. We did have a tasty mango roll, but even one of our favorites, the Hana Special, was smothered in snow crab. What happened to the other fish? After our snow crab-filled meal, we waited 20 minutes just to get the check. If they get their act back together, I'd be more than happy to go back, but alas, it was not as good as it used to be.

Cheap, fresh, fast sushi! There's isn't many speciality rolls, if you are into that kind of thing.. But they have very decent sushi. They have a mango something roll that was really good! The complimentary cold noodles were also delish. I loved how my friend asked for eel sauce and the waitress brought out a whole bottle of it and spicy mayo sauce. Most place are shady ass hell with extra sauce. Our food came out fast and the fish was fresh. This is a great place for lunch or dinner. The prices are ideal also!

I really love Hana. It was actually the very first place I tried sushi ever! I've been coming here for about 7 years now and I still find that it is consistently one of the best places in NOLA for sushi when it comes to value. Their rolls are HUGE! Like in the way that you might have to take two bites which completely goes against sushi etiquette (if you won't tell, I won't tell). Hana also gives all diners a complimentary mini bowl of noodle salad -- yum! I find them pretty accommodating to special orders as well, my friend often creates her own roll and it always comes out perfectly. They have soy and rice paper to those opposed to nori. Hana is quick, cheap, filling and casual. Works very well for a lunch hour if you work or happen to be in the Uptown area. Things to try: Medium Special Roll Fresh Salmon Box Tuna Tataki Salad

Okay this is written from a perspective of a vegan so in no way am I parading around like I'm some Hana expert as I've sampled maybe 5% of their menu . . . so there's that disclaimer out of the way! I used to frequent Hana quite regularly as it was optimally situated right by school and yes, even us vegans enjoy a little sushi sometimes - the avocado rolls and veggie rolls - they count, all right! I was never too sure whether the miso soup contained bonito, but I know a few things that are seemingly "vegetarian" do in fact contain bonito, so be sure to inquire before you order. I do believe the teriyaki tofu is vegetarian, but it's not territory worth venturing into. It's a lump of soft tofu (I don't believe it was silken, but I could be mistaken), with a good amount of teriyaki sauce dumped atop it, sprinkled with a few of those generic bargain frozen veggies (corns, peas, and carrots). I've had the mushroom appetizer (consisting of an array of Asian mushrooms) - which name escapes me and my friend assured me it was vegetarian so I didn't bother asking - again fairly bland, but a dipping sauce did accompany the dish and I was sure to gluttonously soak my tasteless fungi in it. Okay so as far as sushi goes, I pretty much only order the avocado and vegetable roll. The avocado roll - love it. Generous chunks of avocado and from what I recall it's really quite affordable - cheaper than the way more meager and un-fresh stuff they sell at Loyola food services and even Whole Foods. The vegetable roll - quite nice with a bit of lettuce, carrot, daikon (?), and sometimes avocado - it's been awhile so forgive me, but it's definitely a nice plump roll and it's always appeared and tasted fresh and/or nicely preserved. So why only the two stars? Well for some reason, despite the fact that I almost ALWAYS make a big deal about my vegan status and request that the sushi preparers be especially careful about not rolling roe onto my sushi rolls - it still happens 75% of the time. I mean sure sure, maybe I should haul my vegan arse to somewhere like a salad bar buffet, but hey, I think it would be simplistic enough to wipe down the sushi preparation board when I've specifically and politely requested this. I suppose I wouldn't be so irritated if not for the fact that on two of the occasions I had to send the rolls back, the waitress accused me of not specifying to her that I required this special accommodation. First off, I most certainly did, as my companion verified, secondly, the description list did not indicate "roe" as a component of an avocado roll. I surely understand cross contamination occurs more than I'd like to know, but blaming me for the oversight was a bit befuddling and just plain annoying. My last time dining at Hana, I was placing a to go order and having a light conversation with the long-haired Caucasian male that works (maybe he manages?) during the day time hours . . . apparently he's vegan. So I good natured-ly mentioned how it was sometimes frustrating for me, as a fellow vegan, to sometimes receive my vegetable rolls encased in a thin layer of roe. He laughed and agreed and assured that was no longer the case because the chefs were far more conscientious these days. So foolish me, I drove all the way back to Mid City to discover many offending orange balls sprinkled about my avocado and vegetable rolls. I called Hana to report this and I didn't really receive any indication of an apology and they simply just asked me to drive all the way back to exchange the rolls - which I did. I certainly didn't expect any sort of gratuity since I had already paid, but I just found it incredibly odd, a bit incensed (due to the lack of an apology, especially after the words that were exchanged with the vegan server!) and a "sign" if you will - that I should never dine there again. Oh and may I mention that this roe issue has maybe occurred to me one other time at the dozens and dozens of other sushi restaurants I've dined at because perhaps the waiters/waitresses actually note this apparently extraordinary request of mine and communicate it to the sushi chef? Anyway, I don't feel completely awful about the two star status anyway because my legitimate "sushi aficionado" friends often have to restrain themselves from slapping me every time I mention I used to dine at Hana on a weekly basis. True story!

Pros: Great location, extremely generous portions Cons: Had the Hana Special roll and ceviche. The roll was presented in a lake of watery spice mayo sauce. Tuna was old and fishy smelling, "krab" filling in the Hana roll overpowered the taste. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Great restaurant for quantity over quality diners, but for a few dollars more, you could go to Basil Leaf a few blocks away and have a better meal.

I am ecstatic I found this place! Menu items are reasonably priced, especially for the location! You are definitely getting your money's worth. I had the trio sashimi & noodle salad as an app. The trio sashimi was something I've never had before. I really like their style of presenting sashimi three ways. The noodle salad was good as well. Perfect balance of mayo if ya ask me! The tuna and salmon sashimi plates were fresh! Salmon was very buttery. The two rolls I ordered were very similar. The Who Dat & Mango Salmon roll. That was a little disappointing because I like variety. Otherwise, the rolls were good. Overall, enjoyable meal & I will be back :)

I can't help but love Hana. What the restaurant lacks in general food quality and authenticity it more than makes up for in service and price. I would recommend specific foods, but I've tried enough of the menu that I would say most things are a good bet, and pretty standard for a mid-price sushi bar. I promise that if you come with ten dollars you will leave overwhelmingly full.

This is my favorite sushi place in town. Everything is delicious and fresh and you get a free little noodle salad while you wait. Service here is seriously lacking. I have been here a few times and never had great service. One time they even forgot to put in my bf's order so he didn't eat anything.

I've come here on a few occasions.... The food is good. The service is good. Actually the service is great. They are always prompt and the head sushi chef always, always, always throws in a lil lagniappe. (Complete surprise every time). The rolls are too big for my taste. It makes it hard to eawt them.

Met a couple friends for dinner last night. We got gyoza and spring rolls to start, which were both pretty good. My SO and I got 1/2 Hana Special Roll and a Lobster Roll to split. We pretty much always get the special roll, but it was our first time trying the lobster roll. It was very good and I think we'll add it to our rotation! Our service was surprisingly lacking this time around, though. Usually, they are spot on with the warm hand towels, water, and general attention. But they were a little slow and choppy with everything. But our food was delicious, so 4 starts it is!

I hate to have to give Hana 1 star because I've been going here since I was a kid, but after my last experience Hana deserves 1 star. I came in for a light lunch. I ordered a rainbow roll and my favorite sashimi, hokki clam. Obviously rolls vary from place to place but there are some pretty standard ones where you know what you were getting, a rainbow roll being one of them. Rainbow rolls are so named because of the various colors from different sushi and avocado. Sometimes some smelt roe or other colorful additives will be used for additional color. Hana's horrible roll with the worst tasting fish I've ever seen had Hershey's Chocolate Sauce and some Vanilla sauce spread on it! (See pictures) Now for the really bad. Hokki clam is my favorite. It a red and white colorful clam that is a little chewy. The four pieces of hokki clam I was served were so old and defrosted that I was afraid to eat them for safety. They were brown and pale red (see pictures) and wilted. I actually braved one for a few chews and almost threw up. I finally got the (hispanic) sushi chef's attention and asked him what he meant by serving this to me. He said that he did indeed just defrost them in the microwave (thanks for that honesty) but that he didn't know if they were bad or not!?! I asked him how a "sushi chef" sending out raw seafood could ever, ever ever take the risk sending out unfresh or possibly rotten raw shellfish to a customer. He was scared of my raised voice and sheepishly shrugged and slinked away. He took the hokki clam off of my bill even though I also questioned him about the disgusting rainbow roll and sent a cut up orange to say he was sorry. Never again.

Hana's was the first sushi restaurant I ever visited 20 years ago. I hadn't been in many years, but I am sure glad that I went back. It was so good yesterday and we had such excellent service. I had the noodle salad with squid salad on top and they were both exactly what I expected. The delicious surprise was the Hana special roll. It was enormous and filled with crab and fresh salmon and tuna. At $12 it is an exceptional deal! I am already ready to go back!

By no means the best or freshest sushi I have had in New Orleans. However, they have a great variety of rolls and pretty good kitchen dishes. But, there is really nothing they do that is special or makes them stick out. You can get in and out pretty fast. Not a bad place to stop if you're looking for a quick lunch.

Hands down the best sushi I've had in New Orleans. Fresh, delicious, and reasonable! The atmosphere is quaint and cozy, unlike a lot of the modern sushi fusion places you come across. I've been looking for a hole in the wall place like this for a while. So happy we stopped in! Will definitely be back :) We ordered: Hawaiian roll- OUT OF CONTROL!!! Amazing! Hana roll- Massive and so good! We ordered half and even that was a lot. Veggie roll- best veggie roll ever! The sprouts were a great touch.

The food, other than the sushi, is very good here. Vegetable tempura app was tasty and came as a large serving. My husband had the Udon, which he enjoyed, and the clear soup I ordered was some of the best clear soup I've ever had. However, the simple snow crab roll was poorly made (falling apart) and tasted mainly of warm mayo. I ended up being sick later that night and I blame the mayo. Service was extremely slow throughout the entire dinner. We had to ask for drink refills and we waited over 20 minutes for our check. Our waitress was very abrupt and short with us and, when she took our leftovers to be boxed, she stacked a plate of food on top of another plate of food. That's right, the dirty bottom of the plate was just stacked on top of the food that was to be boxed up. Needless to say, we did not eat the leftovers.

Reliable and consistent quality. When were uptown, it's our go-to place for sushi. It's a little cheaper than other sushi places but still good. Their little bowl of noodle salad they give is always a nice extra.

I'm usually a big fan of this place. For the most part the sushi is very tasty and especially at such reasonable prices. However, tonight I went to pick up my order after being told it would take only 10 minutes. The hostess had unfortunately messed up my order. It required me to wait an additional 40 minutes as I watched the hostess and sushi chefs show no real urgency for their mistake. Truly a disappointment from a place I have previously trusted. Hopefully this is only a one time error.

Ok the servers are not really interactive, but I really don't care and continue to go because their sushi is AMAZING. They are not frugal with the amount of seafood they put on your plate. The bake salmon is to die for.

Okay so Hana has officially surpassed Kyoto as my favorite sushi place!! I just had their spicy tuna roll for the first time. it was absolutely delicious. I love their maki lunch special. They always have the greatest quality of fish and perfectly ripened avocado. They also give you eight pieces instead of six of sushi. Their sushi is cheaper than most places around here and the staff is nice. Best place in NOLA for sushi.

Hana has some pretty good food and the largest regular sushi rolls of anyplace in the NOLA area. They are not scared to give you very large (for sushi) pieces of fish in this place. The one consistent problem here seems to be the service that always seems to be slow and your drink always seems to wait way too long to be refilled. If you sit at the sushi bar (like you should in most sushi places) then you get a special little noodle lagniappe. The rolls here are mostly pretty basic and often seem a bit bland when compared to some other NOLA sushi places but the quality is always consistently good and the portions large (for sushi). This place is a bit hidden away in the river bend and can be a nice change of pace place to enjoy a good sushi experience.

this is a local hotspot where the locals go. there are not many frills or thrills, just great food at very reasonable prices. the menu is big and diverse enough to satisfy the beginner or the seasoned sushi aficionado. i've been to almost every sushi restaurant in the city and i keep returning to this one. if you want to be pampered and pay more for " fancy atmosphere" go somewhere else. but if you want good food thats easy on the wallet, nothing else compares.

I would like to give Hana 3 1/2 stars. I've had a lot of good experiences here, and a couple so-so ones; slower service, less delicious food, etc. But I've been going for years and it's usually good. I love the Rainbow Roll and Crunch Roll.

We just ordered Hana takeout and our Salmon Avocado Roll came with a large black HAIR. :( We called to let them know and maybe have the roll taken off our charge, but in order to do that we would have to drive back to the restaurant (um, fix it over the phone? It's called a credit). They did offer us another roll, however, I am not really feeling sushi anymore. Hana used to be a fine sushi restaurant, not the best, but not this bad either. In the last year, quality has declined dramatically. The rolls have been mediocre the last few times we have been. They were not rolled tight enough to pick up without falling apart. Hoping Hana would get their act together, we returned...but the HAIR is now the last straw. Sorry Hana, but this relationship is over.

Best cheap, but good sushi in the university area. Order a large Hana noodle salad. Ive never seen it or anything close at any other sushi restaurant in the nation. Its cold and delicious!

This place is definitely not Nobu, which makes all the difference for me. I went with a huge group and probably ordered everything on the menu. Everything I tried was very tasty, but what I remember most fondly were the green mussels, which are NOT green. The service was very polite and attentive to our huge group. I'm looking forward to visiting the next time I'm in New Orleans!

TERRIBLE SERVICE. The waitress probably dropped by our table every 20 minutes, and it was impossible to get her attention. It was a struggle to even get water. And then, at the end of the meal, I see that she just included 20% gratuity on our bill. There were only 4 of us there though. No wonder she wasn't trying at all. I asked why it was there, and one of the other waitresses was like, "Um...sometimes we put it on tables of four or more." No other restaurants does that for a group of FOUR, especially when the majority of their tables sit four people. So we ended up paying 20% gratuity for nonexistent service. I would have gotten everything faster if it was delivered to my house. The food wasn't that great, either. The raw fish was definitely not cold enough, which can be an issue. I'd steer clear of this restaurant. I'm not going back anytime soon, that's for sure.

It was nice. I wish I had more friends, in which I could try more of the interestiong rolls I had seen being passed around. There is nothing better than sharing bites with chop sticks and friends. I had the octopus legs. It was ok. Thick and tender for octopus, but the fried breading was falling ff and it needed a sauce besides a soy sauce with a lime. Margarita roll was good ofr the price. 12. It was big. Could barely fit it in my mouth. It was messy though, and the guacamole on top I think had mayo on it. Hana is the type of place to bring your friends who like sushi, but can't admit to eating raw fish. Tiny, and closes early. Expansive menu, with lots of big, saucy rolls, and traditional Japanese specialties like natto. The service is extremely attentive, and I have no doubt wins over many fans.

Anytime I'm here I stop by to get m fill of sushi and other delights. The prices are good and the staff friendly. If you want the real deal, sit at the bar and ask "what's good today"? That way you get the freshest they have. That's what they do in Japan. Oh yeah try the "Mango salmon roll" it's great and well worth it.

Hana is really cheap, so take that for what it's worth. I find that the rolls are too mayo-y for me. Their rolls are nothing too special. The service is always nice and quick, so that's a plus. I've never had any of their sashimi, but by the looks of it, the quality doesn't look super good. They do have a really good tofu appetizer.

Unfortunately my experience here was quite the disappointment. The biggest problem here was that the wait staff was completely inattentive. After asking for an extra minute we ended up sitting for a good 15 minutes after deciding what we wanted. The entire time people kept walking toward us but it was hard for us to get anyones attention. Finally, someone took our slip, but didn't review it before she left which led to us having to clarify things later. One of the rolls was apparently completely left off our order. And, everything was just slow. I know that sushi takes time, but this was just a bit much. There were a few good things that would make me either give it another chance or consider take-out. First, the sushi was pretty good, especially for the price/portion ratio. However, even though it was alright it isn't good enough to have to put up with such inattentive service.

When I come to NOLA this is one of my favorite stops. They always have great service, and the sushi/japanese food is always delicious. The rolls are always well done, great soups/salads, and a nice mix of seating options. ***** The only downside is the eel sauce tasted extra salty to me on this most recent trip. Of course that could just be my tastes changing, but it wasn't what I was used to with them in the past. *** Patron for life... as long they are serving good food that is!

Definitely one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the city! The mango salmon roll and lobster rolls are my favorite! They give you a delicious noodle salad to start with. Beware if you sit downstairs they may forget about you so I usually request to sit near the bar. Overall, such a great restaurant that serves really fresh sushi

Hands down best Sushi and Japanese food in the entire New Orleans Metro area. In my humble opinion at least! Best and freshest rolls, sushi, and everything else. Lightest tempura with the best batter. Amazing Tuna Tataki, just barely seared with a great sauce that doesn't over power the flavor of the tuna. I've never had anything bad there. And, between my husband and I we try alot of different things. We don't just get the same thing every time we go. It's a good place for a casual date or dinner with friends. Order a a few different things and share. I'm partial to the sushi over the the meals or dinners. Oh and one more awesome thing you get a little bonus bit of noodle salad every time you order any sushi or rolls. The Staff is friendly and accommodating. It's a small place, but they've managed to get a decent amount of seating in there. Including stools at the sushi bar. Who doesn't like watching your food being made and handed to you directly from the chef. I think the only kinda bad thing i can say is that the acoustics are horrible. If you get in a booth behind some loud talking fool it's a bummer, but the food still out weighs that!

Sushi is good and reasonably priced. My wife and I love this place. One of our first dates was here. It is definitely our go-to restaurant. We have been here more times than I can remember. The service may be a little slow at times when it gets real busy, but it works. It is a nice place to talk. Not real great for larger groups.

I had dinner at Hana and really enjoyed it. It's located in an old, wooden house with very limited parking. I happened to go on a Friday night and the place was bustling; not packed and over-crowded, but just the right amount for atmosphere. I noticed a mixed crowd of families, couples, and friends all enjoying themselves. I sat at the bar, my friend ordered for me, and everything I sampled was delicious. Now, I must admit...I am by NO MEANS an adventurous eater and do not like raw fish, seaweed, or other sushi staples. I will eat anything tempura since it's fried; however, the crawfish and cream cheese rolls were amazing!

Hands down the best sushi place in NOLA. The fish is always so fresh. I highly recommend the special fresh salmon and the baked salmon roll which is served with a mix of greens. The Hana special roll is another goodie and the service is wonderful. However, my favorite thing they do is the BBQ EEL Sushi and the EEL roll. The sauce they use on their eel is to die for. Not to mention the "Hana Special Sauce" that is topped on many of the other wonderful rolls. I've never had a bad experience there in the 15 years I've been frequenting it. I couldn't recommend this place any more!

After scouring NOLA for a good sushi place, I basically gave up. There was none to be found in this city. When you try 5 or 10 places and they are all crap, you basically give up. Suddenly, I discovered a place way out from downtown, but it turned out to be the best in the city. There is none better than Hana. If you're looking for the best sushi in NOLA, you've got to try Hana.They have the best sushi chef in the whole city. Also, they are the only Japanese restaurant in the city that knows anything about sake. They do not yet have a sophisticated sake menu, but I hear that it is in the works. Meanwhile, they do understand sake. They have the basics, but more importantly they know the market. They sell Karatamba sake for $11.00. (WHICH IS THE CORRECT MARKET PRICE). All of these other piece of shit sushi places like horinoya, sushi brothers, rock and sake, etc. are pricing Karatamba between $16 and $20 per bottle - WHICH IS TOTAL BULLSHIT!!!! Screw all these other POS sushi places and Stick to Hana - You won't go wrong and you'll be pleased!!!!

I've never really had great sushi in New Orleans. This place is ok, not great. For the most part, the service is very good and friendly. Their paper sushi menu was confusing because many of the rolls are not labeled as rolls. The tiny deep-fried crab appetizer was great. The crawfish roll was ok, good to see what it was like but I wouldnt order for a while. The cajun roll was too spicy and the fish was unidentifiable. The white tuna pieces had some mayonaise between the fish and rice that gave it an unpleasant taste and texture. The fresh water eel with omlette pieces were good. In other words, if you live here in New Orleans, there may not be a better sushi place. If you are visiting, you may want to satisfy your sushi urge when you get back home. It is not bad, but nothing to write home about.

Favorite place to take the family for sushi! First visit was almost 3 yrs ago, and we make it a point to go whenever we can. Atmosphere is laid back, love the area of Carrollton & St. Charles, food is great, and have perfect options for the non-sushi lovers as well. We never leave hungry!

You get slightly more than what you pay for at Hana. That's code for very cheap prices for average food. I've primarily been there for lunch, which is even more spectacularly cheap. Your first point of contact with food will probably be their free noodle bowl. Almost everyone I know absolutely loves this, and the nonexistent price is always a winner. The rest of the food is really hit and miss. The teriyaki sauce is always very off to me. I've had the chicken twice now, and I didn't finish most of it either round. I've had better luck with their sushi roles, although I can't remember enough standouts to list them here. Again, they're cheap and usually pretty decent. I have to side with many of the other reviews in terms of the service. It's often poor with little attention after your food actually arrives. I dined once with a particularly fast drinker who was especially frustrated. The interior is nondescript. There's a fish tank somewhere, but otherwise I don't recall it being either outstanding or a hot a** mess.

Dining in at Hana is often a bad experience. The wait staff is either falling all over each other to get to you, or they completely forget about you. Multiple times. It also seems that my order is often wrong. When I say I don't want white fish, I usually mean I don't want white fish. I find that somehow getting take-out leads to less confusion. Yelling your order over the phone to a person that doesn't know what a super duper hand roll is (it's on the menu) seems to work out so much better than dining in. Not only is the staff inconsistent, but so is the food. One night, the rainbow roll is AMAZING. Order a rainbow roll a week later, and you're sending it back because the tuna is incredibly dark and has the texture of old Jell-O. I think my Hana days are over.

Hana is the place for high quality inexpensive sushi. The sashimi lunch is amazing - only $11and includes soup, salad, and a bowl of rice. Sit at the sushi bar for the best service. If your appetite is bigger, try the lobster roll. Lobster tempura and mixed greens wrapped in rice paper. Yum.

I have found the ultimate New Orleans sushi roll!! It's here!! The Who Dat roll is not described on the menu, so get ready: Shrimp, crab and tuna on the inside, topped with salmon and tuna (like a rainbow roll) with slices of avocado, spicy roe, crunchy on top AND eel sauce with spicy mayo sauce. Oh-ma-gaaahh I am in love! It was so big that I split it with a friend and was satisfied. Definitely worth the $12. We also had the Red Dragon roll, which is a local favorite: Crab and crunchy topped with fresh tuna and eel sauce. Hit the spot for my picky boyfriend. The food is always fresh and awesome. This is a neighborhood joint with fresh, yummy sushi. It really feels like a local Italian diner or something, but they have a fish tank and sake. The service is sometimes slow, but they are always relaxed here. They start you off with noodle salad, which I haven't the slightest idea how it's made, but it's yummy. I helped myself to my own water and grabbed some candy on the way out the door. Relaxed, neighborhood feel Try the WHODAT Roll!! Yummy noodle salad Always fresh I only deducted a star because they don't try to be the best and the service is consistently inconsistent. All-in-all it's my neighborhood spot and I'm lucky, because this is the best sushi in town that I've had. Not a fan of the other places...

All these fools be hatin' on my Hana! Okay, it's true what they say. Hana is not some artisan sushi place, with progressive flavors and dynamic presentation. It's the little sushi stop around the corner. Basic rolls are tasty, the fish is pretty fresh (this is one of my favorite places for a salmon avocado roll in the city), and oh yea- it's hella cheap!* *for sushi Now, regarding the noodle salad- have you ever heard the term "Japanese mayonnaise"? That's what i was told goes on the noodles to make a cold bowl of noodle salad. It's much better if you get the squid to top it off. Their seaweed salad is also pretty good, although like much of Hana's fare, it's bare bones compared to what you find served up in presentation and preparation in the rest of the city. Hana is, ultimately, comfort food. Which is odd to say of a sushi place, i suppose. But when I'm having a rough day, all i need is a good book and a crunchy roll to make everything better. Oh, and a Ramune- you know, a "marble soda" as they call it in Colorado. It's a Japanese soda which comes in a fun bottle and often tastes of bubblegum sprite. It's intended as a drink for children, but since i do possess some of the taste buds of a 6 year old, I seek this drink out like meth in a trailer park. Nancy, the manager, is an amazing lady. she'll get to know you first by order, then by name. Once, I came in when I sprained my back, and she gave me a giant paper goose for good luck. This is the kind of service here. It's like a down-home dinner community, but in a sushi restaurant. And it's been judged too harshly here. 4 stars, to balance out the reviews.

A friend and I went and had quite a selection: Who Dat Roll, Hana Roll, Smoked Philly Roll, California Roll - These were pretty decent, but it was annoying how so many of them fell apart just picking them up off the plate. I will assume that this was just an off night. Beef skewers and grilled Gyoza appetizers were pretty decent; Green Salads could have used more of the ginger dressing, but I am a ginger fiend; the Shumai Soup was good. There was way more food than we thought there would be, as we didn't realize how big some of the rolls would be. I vacilated between two and three stars on this place. I guess I would not protest over going here again, but I would try another spot first if the choice was mine.

Skip the traditional rolls - if you're a spicy tuna/california roll person... good luck. Love the Who Dat roll. Service is really not that great at all.

In short: Hana's is a hot mess. The menu is confusing, the service slow and the sushi hurried. I've been here twice. The first time it wasn't a terribly memorable experience. Went again 2 months later because it was in my friends neighborhood. Will never go back. It was in the early evening, not terribly busy but the waitress kept seeming to forget about us. When our sushi finally arrive it looked like it was thrown together last minute. The rolls fell apart at the touch forget trying to dip them in soy sauce. We both stopped eating after 2 bites and waited a half an hour for the waitress to check back with us. When we told he we thought the sushi was a wreck she told us that that was how they made sushi here. That most places used a machine, but here everything is handmade (I still have NO idea what she ment by that- even my cheap little grocery store has people who hand make the sushi, and it doen't crumble against my chop sticks).

First, sushi was good. If that was the only thing we had ordered we would have been pretty happy. Sadly, we ordered steak from the hibachi and it was HORRIBLE. I mean the worst. The meat was tough, fatty, and was covered in what looked to be barbque sauce. Save your money. We certainly won't return.

I was in a group of 3 and went here for the first time a few weeks ago. I usually had gone to Ninja in the past. The service we experienced at Hana was amazing. We did have a mix up in the order when I ordered chicken teriyaki and was presented with chicken tempura. When told about the mistake, the waiter immediately brought it back to the kitchen and I had my correct meal within minutes, and they apologized for the mix up. The quality of the food was fantastic. The sushi did sometimes fall apart, but it was delicious and well presented and very quick. I can't wait to go back again.

I love HANA, I have been there 3 times and it is my favorite. From the huge rolls to the awesome eel sushi, it is very tasty and friendly. They actually had uni, my favorite. Good prices and filling, special orders were no problem. OK don't order steak in a sushi bar.

Went there the other day for take-out. Everything was really great. The Hana Special Roll is HUGE. Don't even attempt to eat the full order yourself. A little cheaper than other sushi places around here, and just as good.
